China’s reform and the quick economic development provide the foreign-owned companies with good historic opportunities to invest and develop in China. By realizing the business values, the foreign-owned companies are actively implementing their corporate social responsibilities and running the credible business. In such a way, the foreign-owned companies give a positive contribution to the construction of well-off society.
CAEFI has been actively in advocating the CSR implementation in foreign-invest companies and leading the foreign-invest companies make good use of their own expertise to solve the social, environmental and labor problems. In the meantime, the companies’ economic performance and competitiveness can also be improved. In March 2006, the Investment Companies’ Working committee of CAEFI had a press conference in which the Corporate Social Responsibility Beijing Declaration was announced. According to the declaration, all the member companies must have strict self-discipline in the areas of laws, taxes, Intellectual Property, employment, labor rights, environment protection, commonweal, and corporation information disclosure. 66 companies make commitment to the Beijing Declaration to dedicate to the corporate social responsibility by taking actions. The Good Brand Protection Committee, Pharmaceutics Research and Development Committee, Textile and Garment Committee and other committees in CAEFI are also actively advocating their member companies to implement corporate social responsibility through organizing different activities, take actions to promote the corporation development, and in the meantime are in response to the call on harmonious society construction from Chinese government.
To further promote the foreign-invest companies’ corporate social responsibility and creditable business, demonstrate the effort that the foreign-invest companies’ put in corporate social responsibility implementation, encourage the foreign-invest companies continue to contribute to the harmonious society construction, CAEFI, Investment Promotion Agency of Ministry of Commerce (CIPA) and China WTO Tribune will jointly organize the “2007 Foreign-invest Corporation CSR Summit. Leading officials and guests from National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Commerce. PRC, Ministry of Labour and Social Security. PRC, State Administration for Industry & Commerce, State Environment Protection Administration of China will be invited to give speeches and explore such topics as the opportunities and challenges the foreign-invest companies face and CSR’s global development situations, foreign-invest companies’ good cases to implement CSR will also be demonstrated and discussed.
To publicize the achievements the foreign-invest companies have made in intellectual property protection, environment protection, commonweal and employee care etc, the 1st Best Foreign-invest Corporations CSR Practice Exhibition will be hold during the summit, to further enlarge the impact of this summit, the domestic and overseas media will be invited to attend the exhibition and summit.
The member companies are welcomed to participate in the exhibition. The member companies can hand on their CSR cases in paper to the Secretariat of Selection Committee before 30th June (case collection period: from 26th April to 30th June). The case should be written in accordance with the case selection standards and could cover the aspects in commonweal, labor rights, environment protection, intellectual property protection, promoting the local economy and poverty alleviation (see in attached for case requirements).
